South Miami Art Festival

Sponsored by First National Bank of South Miami

This is by far our biggest Chamber South event. We have over 50,000 individuals who come through the Art Festival over the course of the two days. Celebrating our 41th year on the quaint streets of Downtown South Miami, this juried fine art show features nationally recognized artists and is a favorite annual event for residents and visitors alike.  The 41st Annual Show will be held on November 3 & 4th, 2012.  Stay tuned for 2012 applications.

This year’s poster winner is Art n Soul by Doug Cavanah.
Doug Cavanah is an outdoor photographer who specializes in large format panoramic photographs.  A Florida native, he began landscape photography in 1999.  Previously Doug owned a frame and art gallery for nearly two decades.

His work reflects his love for the outdoors and the unique shooting style combines dramatic lighting and strong compositions.  Using light and weather as the “paint” of his photographic palette, his photographs possess a powerful life size dimension.

Doug’s photographic travels have included destinations in Europe, the South Pacific, Central America, the Caribbean and throughout the United States.

These photographs are shot on film using a 4”X10″ large format view camera.  Each transparency is then scanned and printed to match the original image.  The photographs are printed on canvas using archival pigmented inks guaranteed to last a lifetime.

The Winning T-Shirt is Arroz con Mango by Tony Mendoza

Artist Tony Mendoza was born in New York to Cuban parents, but raised in the Little Havana neighborhood of Miami. He creates images and vignettes of Little Havana, perpetuating in his acrylics the Cuban heritage in a primitive-expressionistic style full of vibrant color.

Mendoza’s art has been described as cartoon & pop-art because of its signature bold color and cheerfulness.  It reflects his Little Havana upbringing.
